Sylvia: Hi LaKisha.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to interview with me.  Please tell us about yourself and your business?

LaKisha:  Hi Sylvia. I am LaKisha Mosley and I am the Founder and Event Producer of The LM Experience, host of The Convo with Kisha podcast and Chief Blogger of LaKishaMosley.com for which I cover business, lifestyle, family, health and more, delving into all things entrepreneurial life. The Convo With Kisha Podcast, featuring businesspeople and game-changers affecting world change.

I have been blessed with eight years of event managing experience, and a few of my well-known events include the Werk, Slay, Pray Conference and other nationwide Mompreneur summits, not excluding national conventions, regional conferences and weddings.

Sylvia: Oh wow, I’ve heard of your event. That is awesome! Also, I have a similar Lifestyle & Business blog which covers those topics. Check it out sometimes at www.SylviaBrowder.com. What does success mean to you?

LaKisha:  Success means reaching my goals, but also helping someone else reach theirs. My brand was founded on women empowerment and uplifting. We grow together and win together. We absolutely rise by uplifting others.

Sylvia:  Yes we do. I also believe in reaching out and helping others. Paying it Forward is extremely important to me. How do you create work-life balance?

LaKisha: I keep my self-care appointments faithfully and take them as seriously as my appointments with my clients. They are non-negotiable. Also, because I work from home, I try to stick to a schedule on which I end certain parts of my workday by 5pm, also creating necessary boundaries.

Sylvia:  What steps are necessary for a woman entrepreneur who wants to move her business to the next level?

LaKisha: First, a woman must have a clear vision. Once your vision and purpose is established, moving to the next level will require planning with precision. You must know exactly what you want and determine the plan you will implement in order to execute your goal. You must also have a strong conviction of self, being well acquainted with who you are, your value and gifts. In order to truly know yourself, you must prioritize spending quiet moments of reflection with yourself. This is when you can truly connect with and envision your greatness.

Sylvia: Vision, very important! It is important to give back.  In what way do you give back to your community?

LaKisha: I am a strong advocate of community service and under normal circumstances, I am very active in the community with my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Due to social distancing precautions, it’s been difficult to move in my usual ways.

However, I’ve been hosting several online events to help others start and grow their businesses. My team and I are currently planning ‘My Mind is My Business’, Virtual Summit; which will be held on October 27-29, 2020. This event will be virtual for the community that incites insightful conversation about mental health issues that affect our community.

We have gathered leading mental health experts to talk about mental health as it relates to our money, sex lives, domestic issues, etc. and we even delve into how mental health wellness can complement the mission of the church. It’s going to be a great time.

Sylvia: Wow, sounds very informative. I am certain it will be well received by your target audience. What challenges and opportunities do you see in the present economic environment?

LaKisha: In lieu of COVID 19, social distancing restrictions have greatly limited businesses specifically as it relates to event hosting. As an event manager, I have had to usher my clients into virtual and virtual hybrid events so that they can continue to stay engaged with their audience in a way that increases the bottom line of their companies and brands.

Sylvia: How do you promote/market your business?

LaKisha: Currently, I host The Convo With Kisha podcast and LaKishaMosley.com blog in which I feature various movers and shakers within business that are heavily influencing their industries. As I uplift others who are making their mark on my platforms, it also allows opportunities to cross-promote on their platforms as well. We win together!

Sylvia: Right! I do similar marketing. It does work. What books and resources would you recommend to other women in business?

LaKisha: Some of my favorite books are You’re a Badass and You’re a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero, The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson, Dangerous Prayers by Craig Groeschel which is about the power of prayer and The Woman Code by Sophia Nelson which delves into women relationships.

Sylvia: Yes, those are good books. I’ve been meaning to invest in Sophia Nelson’s book. What advice do you have for women who are just starting out?

LaKisha: Put God first and always seek Him in all that you do. Be sure to find a mentor or coach, and take heed to their advice. Lastly, just get started and don’t stop. It doesn’t have to be perfect; progress is key.

Sylvia: How do you stay connected in mind, body and spirit?

LaKisha: Prayer and the Word of God keep me grounded. I try to seek God each day before I start my work day, allowing Him to be the Master CEO of my life and my business.

Sylvia: What is your favorite quote to live by?

LaKisha: The philosopher Aristotle has said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Likewise, Jesus said, “You will know a tree by its fruit.” I operate my life in a way that I demand excellence from myself and from my team, so that our brand will be known for its fruit, which include our results and ways that we serve our clients.

Sylvia:  Share with us two industry or general business related tips that could help other women business owners.

LaKisha: It is absolutely true: “Empowered women, empower women.” Be the change that you want to see and the energy that you put out into others will help you uplift your brand. Most of all, be committed to growth. That commitment will push you through all the obstacles that come with pursuing your greatness.

Sylvia:  Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with our members and subscribers.

LaKisha: You are very welcome.
