Dr. Lesley Phillips: Hello Sylvia.I am a speaker, author, workshop leader, meditation teacher, healer and clairvoyant reader.

My career began as a PhD scientist and business woman in the biotechnology industry; although I have had a lifetime interest n meditation and spirituality and developed my abilities in parallel to my busy career.

Originally from the UK, I moved to Canada in 1998. I trained in meditation, healing and clairvoyance at the School of Insight and Intuition, UK and CDM Spiritual Teaching Center in Seattle, where I was mentored by renowned author and speaker Mary Ellen Flora. I graduated as an ordained minister in 2003 and from the centers teaching program in 2005.

I have been teaching classes since then, including private and corporate meditation workshops. So far I have counseled over a 1000 individuals and presented at over 100 live events. I am known as a caring, gifted teacher and speaker that brings out the best in people.

My book “The Midas Tree” teaches meditation and is an allegory for spiritual enlightenment. It is a spiritual adventure story, that involves a boy, a vibrating acorn and a lifetime journey within a magical tree, will be published on November 11th 2012.

Sylvia: Very interesting background. What inspired you to write your first book?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: I teach meditation classes in Vancouver BC. I wanted to bring the techniques I teach to a larger audience, and felt that a book would be a great way to do this. I prepared myself through deep meditations that took me to a wise part of myself that knew exactly what to write.

My book, The Midas Tree, was given to me as a vision. The night following my meditation was sleepless because ideas were pouring into me all night.  By morning I had an outline of the book. I felt so excited and I could not wait to write. I knew I was right on my purpose.

Sylvia: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: You are spirit. You are powerful beyond measure. You are an eternal spiritual being of light. You are a co-creator with God. You have amazing spiritual abilities that are your birthright. Meditation offers you a way to tune into your God, find out who you really are, and access your power and abilities.

Sylvia: So inspirational… calming! Do you have any advice for other writers?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: Write from your intuition and not your intellect.

When I was writing The Midas Tree, I would sit quietly while the story played to me as though I was watching a movie screen. All I had to do was watch and listen and write as the story unfolded before my eyes. I could stop at any place in the story and resume at the same place whenever I liked. I was a reader who could not wait to see what would happen next.

As I was writing I was aware of the many layers of information and meaning that are embedded in the story. They are all layers of information that I as a person know. However, I don’t believe I could have woven such magic had I used my intellectual mind to figure it all out. I waited until I had it all down before I edited the grammar and spelling or checked for continuity.

Sylvia: What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: I have a website and Facebook page for the book and I tweet about it. I am also about to open a Pinterest account. I am currently engaged in a virtual book tour, writing a guest blog article a day for different sites over the next 60 days. I have also actively worked on getting interviews on radio, TV and the blogosphere; as well as book reviews. My book will be launched on November 11th and so I will let you know…

Sylvia: Very good advice. I recently opened a Pinterest account. In fact, your interview will be uploaded to a board called, “Women Authors.” Wow, it takes a lot of dedication to commit to writing daily articles. I admire you! Why should we buy your book?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: If you are a Mom or Grandma, or a Dad or Grandpa, and you enjoy reading with your children or grandchildren, then by a copy of “The Midas Tree.” You can go on an exciting adventure together and learn some practical tools and techniques that you can use for the rest of your life at the same time.

If you are a kid, read this book because it will help you get a head start on life. It will help you not to make the same mistakes as the adults around you. Adults spend years stuffing all sorts of icky stuff inside and even more years digging it all out again, so they can get back in touch with the bright sparks that they really are. You can learn how not to do this at all.

If you are neither of the above, so a woman or man without kids, then buy it too. It’s for kids of all ages and it’s a fun read with lots of adventure and deep spiritual truths.

Sylvia: Is there a special place that you prefer when you write?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: No, I wrote the Midas Tree in four different countries: UK, USA, Canada and Honduras and in the houses of family and friends. All I need is my trusty laptop and some peace and quiet.

Sylvia: What projects are you currently working on?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: Marketing “The Midas Tree” comes first, but then I plan to create a workbook for teachers and parents to use with children to help them teach and learn the meditation techniques in the novel.

Sylvia: What is your POWER WORD? Why this word?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: GROUNDING – This is the first meditation technique that I teach any student. It is very simple, but immensely powerful because you can use it to heal yourself and completely change your life.  To ground sit in a chair, keep your back straight and place your feet flat on the ground. Breathe deeply and tune into a place near the base of your spine. Create a flow of energy that goes from there all the way to the center of the earth. If it helps you can visualize the flow as a laser beam, waterfall or tree.

What this does is anchor your consciousness into your physical body and helps you be present in the physical world. You can use the energy flow to let go of anything that is not working for you: pain, stress, stored emotions, self-limiting beliefs and more.

Sylvia: I like that word, very interesting choice. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: Three magical things from my book “The Midas Tree”

  • Pollens that enable me to make delicious tropical fruit combinations
  • Seeds that contain the secrets of how to live on this desert island
  • A magical deva to teach me how to survive in this new and unusual environment

Sylvia: If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

Dr. Lesley Phillips: My job is to teach people how to access their spiritual superpowers. My favorite superpower is my spiritual X-Ray vision; otherwise called my clairvoyance. This ability allows me to see clearly as spirit. It helps me to see my life from a neutral, non-judgmental spiritual perspective. I can also see my spiritual helpers, read other peoples energy fields and tell the truth from a lie. Joshua the hero of The Midas Tree learns how to use his spiritual super-powers and if you read the book, you will too.

Sylvia: Thank you!  Please share your social media and book contact information.

Dr. Lesley Phillips: You are very welcome.
