An Interview with Angela Pride: Author, Speaker, Business Owner & Church Elder

Sylvia: Welcome Angela, please give a brief introduction of yourself and your book.

Angela: Thank you Sylvia. My name is Angela Pride. I am a professional speaker, author, and the founder Coach with Pride, a coaching and training firm that is designed to help small business owners become more productive and profitable. I graduated from the University of South Carolina and obtained my Coaching Certification from Coach Training Alliance.

I am married to Mr. Troy Pride Sr., and we reside in Upstate South Carolina with our four beautiful children Brionah, Troy Jr., Chance, and Trinity.

I serve as Elder in my church, ‘Kingdom Assembly Outreach Center’ under the great leadership of Bishop Getties Jackson Sr. and Pastor De’Anita Jackson.

I recently retired after 3 years as a Black Girls RUN Ambassador in the Greenville/Spartanburg area leading African American females to healthier more active lives!

Sylvia: Wow, busy mom, wife, church leader, business owner and author as well! What inspired you to write your first book?

Angela: Honestly I never wanted to write a book to a specific audience because I train men and women, but God gave me ‘When Women Lead’ and I eventually said ok. My inspiration came from my experiences in coaching women and noting the various obstacles that often arose. I wanted to through my book find a way to encourage and empower women to keep leading but better.

Sylvia: I love it! When God ask us to do something, it might feel uncomfortable but look at the outcome. Congratulations Angela on your book! What do you think the most difficult thing women leaders face?

Angela: Bypassing everyone else’s opinion and just believing in themselves. There is always so much pressure from all over, from friends, family as well as colleagues

Sylvia: So true! That is why God prepares us for His work. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Angela: My message is that when women lead, things happen. Great things happen. Ladies Keep Leading.

Sylvia: Yes! I’ve written several articles on women and leadership. Do you have any advice for other writers?

Angela: Be persistence; use your voice because someone needs to hear your message.

Sylvia: I agree! What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Angela: So far book signings have been good for me. I am currently planning a book tour and speaking events.

Sylvia: Social media is great as well. It gives you a global reach. Why should we buy your book?

Angela: If you aspire to Lead, this book will empower you to do so and if you are currently leading this book will encourage you to not only continue but to be better.

Sylvia: Is there a special place that you prefer when you write?

Angela: Not really, honestly I do a lot of voice recordings. Whenever the inspiration hits me.

Sylvia: What projects are you currently working on?

Angela: My summer book tour, a fall conference and an all female mastermind group. I am also currently writing WWL Vol 2

Sylvia: Wow, see what inspiration God has given you. And now a second book… very awesome! What is your POWER WORD? Why this word?

Angela: My Power word would have to be MOTIVATE. It’s just what I do.

Sylvia: ‘Motivate’ is such a powerful word. Great choice!

Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way.” Les Brown

Just as you’ve released your book, a woman announced her run for the Whitehouse, how do you feel about this?

Angela: Well, women are already leading. To make a run for the highest office in the land, I can’t say that I’m not excited. I think we’ve come a long way but we’ve still got a ways to go. This is no time for complacency, KEEP LEADING!

Sylvia: What woman are you most inspired by?

Angela: I honestly can’t say just one woman. I am inspired almost daily by women around me who continue to thrive and succeed in spite of the obstacles they constantly face. Also many public figures, I describe a few in the book.

Sylvia: Your book includes a picture gallery, what is that all about?

Angela: The women pictured in my book are very near and dear to my heart. Each woman represented has their own spin on my leadership journey in their own way. My mother and grandmother are pretty obvious I guess. My Pastor and mother in law have pushed me to become better, while correcting me at the same time. Lastly, the founders of Black Girls RUN founders have been a huge part of my life for the past 3 years, such an inspiration on following ones dreams. They grew from one group to currently 160K+ members
