Many women set aside a lot of time and spend a lot of money toward their outward appearance; but when it comes to the inward appearance, it seems as though little to no time is spent thereon. The media advertises so much on how to improve the outer man; but when it comes to the improvement of the “inner man of the heart” there is very little being said and done.
I Peter 3:3-4, “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; Verse 4. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”
A Meek and Quiet Spirit
According to Merriam Webster’s online dictionary, Meek means:
- To endure injury with patience and without resentment.
- Deficient in spirit and courage: SUBMISSIVE
- Not violent or strong: MODERATE
Quiet means:
- Restrained in speech, manner, etc.; saying little.
If you want to improve your inner man pray for a meek and a quiet spirit. According to the Bible, if you are married, these will enhance your marriage; if you are single, these will prepare you for marriage; and if you do not ever intend on getting married, these will be great treasures to own. The holy women of the Bible adorned themselves with these invaluable qualities. Meekness is more than just an outward expression; it comes from the heart.
What Does Meekness Do for You?
Meekness prevents you from being unforgiving, prideful, and angry. A meek spirit prohibits hatred, promotes love, and is not intimidating. A docile person does not criticize, condemn, nor judge. A person with this quality is kind, other-centered, longsuffering, and gentle.
In essence, meekness will solve a lot of problems in relationships, and by and large, would improve not only marriages, but friendships, church communities, other communities, and nations when you walk in it.
What Does Quietness Do for You?
Quietness prevents you from being a show-off, alleviates the sins of the tongue: gossip, backbiting, slandering, arguments, criticism, and the likes. A quiet person is not pushy or pretentious, does not get angry easily, is not impatient, and does not yield to extreme emotions. Quietness restrains you from disturbing your neighbors, helps you to co-exist peacefully with others, allows you to keep a clear thinking head, and is not competitive. This character trait does not mean that a person does not speak when it is necessary.
Many people tend to look down at this beauty; but God looks up at it. The Bible is against women being loud and clamorous; but it praises women who are decorated with a quiet spirit. Quietness is more than speaking little; it is a mindset and way of behaving. Meekness and quietness are not weaknesses; but strengths and virtues that every woman should covet.
