Mother’s Day is only days away. As you honor your mother this year, consider the foundation of the faith in your family. Many times Mother is the one whose steadfast faith holds a family together. It is often a Mother’s faith that is the foundation for our own beliefs.

The Bible has many wonderfully precedents for honoring others. The following Bible verses are among ten of my favorite. These verses are filled with passion and love. Above all they are filled with Truth and will bless your Mother’s heart on Mother’s Day.

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Philippians 1:2-3  The apostle Paul was a man of eloquence who penned most of the epistles, or letters, of the New Testament. Paul usually began his letter to the Churches with a statement of grace and love to his brothers and sisters in Christ. Borrowing from Paul’s eloquence and sharing his sentiment, Philippians 1:2-4 will be a refreshing Mother’s day greeting and blessing.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God upon every remembrance of you. ~Philippians 1:2-3

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: I Corinthians 13: 4-7   Mother’s Day is among the most appropriate to reflect on the true meaning of love. A Mother’s love is often a personification of I Corinthians 13:4-7.

Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous; is not proud; is not conceited; does not act foolishly; is not selfish; is not easily provoked to anger; keeps no record of wrongs; takes no pleasure in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. ~I Corinthians 13:4-7

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Philippians 4:8  No more encouraging words have ever been written than those of Paul to the Church at Philippi as he encouraged them in life, thought, and spirituality. The Bible verse bearing Paul’s words is a sentiment and philosophy of life that continues to echo through the ages. It will also encourage your Mother on Mother’s Day.

Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of a good report – if there is any virtue and if there is any praise- think on these things. ~Philippians 4:8

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Philippians 4:4-7   Paul began the encouraging Bible verse above by writing the following words which also offer encouragement, but also instructions for finding strength, joy, and peace.

Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!    Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don’t’ worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving; let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:4-7

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day : I Peter 4:8   As you grow older and mature, you may begin to realize more and more of the sacrifices your mother made for you when you were a child, and as an adult. This is a short verse in I Peter, but the words speak volumes. I believe as we reflect on our Mother’s love this Mother’s Day, we can easily include this verse when we pen a card or letter, because in essence it says that love doesn’t make a mockery of your foolishness, immaturity, mistakes, bad decisions, or sin. Instead, love, without trying to hide the truth, gently puts issues to rest in the love and forgiveness of Christ. Thank you mother for letting go of the past and loving you through life using Peter’s words in I Peter 4:8.

Keep your love for one another at full strength, because love covers a multitude of sins. ~I Peter 4:8

Isn’t that a beautiful way to think of your mother’s unconditional love?

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Ephesians 6:1-3   Mother’s Day is also the perfect time for reminding your mother that you recognize what a high and holy calling motherhood is. It is so noble a job that God’s command to honor your parents is the first commandment that is given in conjunction with a promise. Honor and acknowledge your mother’s godly role by sharing the following Bible verse written by Paul.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise – that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life. ~Ephesians 6:1-3

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Psalms 128:1-2, 5-6   The Book of Psalms offers a treasury of Bible verses by which to acknowledge a godly mother’s influence. A mother of faith will be blessed by your words and additionally blessed by the Word of God concerning those whose lives have been a journey with Him.

How happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways! You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you…May the Lord bless you from Zion, so that you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life, and will see your children’s children. ~Psalms 128:1-2, 5-6

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Romans 8:38-39   Perhaps you are searching for words to encourage your mother this year. Perhaps it has been a difficult year, a time of trials and troubles. Paul, again with eloquence, encourages the heart of every believer in his epistle to the Church at Rome. These Bible verses will uplift your mother’s heart and spirit. She has been an encourager in your life. Maybe, it’s time you became an encourager in hers. Remind her that God is near. God is in control, and through Him believers have the victory. Approach this Scripture by posing this thought: Mom, it’s been a rough year, but remember what you taught me — Who can separate us from the love of Christ?

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor demons, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing can separate us from the love of God that is Christ Jesus our Lord! ~Romans 8:38-39

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Proverbs 31: 10, 25-30   It’s difficult for a Mother’s Day to pass without considering the virtuous woman spoken of by King Solomon in Proverbs 31. Lavish this praise upon your own mother who has raised you with her strength, virtue, and diligence. If you are like me, you have probably been a handful. Give her the praise due her straight from the Bible.

Who can find a virtuous woman? She is far more precious than jewels… Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her sons rise up and call her blessed. He husband also praises her: Many women are capable, but you surpass them all! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.   ~Proverbs 31:10, 25-30

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day: Psalms 91:1   Anyone whose faith is in the Lord finds in Him all the comfort, strength, and protection they need. A mother of faith knows that He is her refuge. You can be sure that many times during motherhood she has sought the refuge of God not only for herself, but for you, as well.

Use Mother’s Day as an opportunity to acknowledge God as a place of refuge, strength, and blessings. The entire 91st Psalm is appropriate to use. If writing space is limited provide her with the first verse. I’m sure she has read, meditated on, and prayed these words over you.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ~Psalms 91:1

Insert one of these verses in your mother’s day card or letter this year. Your Mother will gain an additional blessing from your use of Scripture in your expressions of love, appreciation, gratitude, respect, and honor.
