We all face challenges in life and we all have hills to climb. But the key is how we decide to get through them. We will never get to the mountain top if we keep looking towards the base down below. We’d miss a step, we’d lose focus, or we’d just give up. We’ve got to keep our eyes on the prize, so we can face head on the challenges we may face, learning and growing on the way up. If we lose our focus, we can stay stuck and never reach our full potential of getting to the top. We should not let a little adversity sidetrack us to the point where we lose focus. When we lose focus, we can become stuck, when it is our job to keep moving forward.

So today, I implore you to challenge yourself to remain steadfast on your course. We all make bad decisions and have pitfalls, but when we remember that we can’t undo yesterday, tomorrow is not promised, so we should make today count.

Through it all, we should remain positive, open-minded, focused, and faithful. Remember, it’s not other’s people’s actions that we should focus on, but our reaction, which is all we truly have control over.

“There were people who went to sleep last night, poor and rich and white and black, but they will never wake again. And those dead folks would give anything at all for just five minutes of this weather, or ten minutes of plowing. So you watch yourself about complaining. What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it.  If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” -Maya Angelou
