It is natural to be frightened when we become ill. We feel vulnerable. We worry; we want to know that everything will turn out all right. We sometimes feel alone even when loved ones are by our side. The illness lies within us, and no one else knows exactly how we feel. Prayer has the power to transform our fear into faith. It reminds us that we are never alone. Everything we are, body and soul, is in the hand of God, whose presence fills the universe and who is as close to us as our own breath. No matter what this unpredictable world sends our way, with God by our side we can find the strength to confront our fears. So pray and welcome God’s healing power.

Prayer is not a passive activity. Prayer alters us. It awakens us. Our eyes begin to notice beauty where we never noticed it before. Our hearts begin to feel compassion we never knew we had. Our priorities shift. As we talk to God, we receive the encouragement to live up to the potential inside us. Soon we start to see beyond ourselves into the world that is waiting for our help.

So pray. Pray for healing, pray for peace, pray for the strength to eradicate disease, pray for the courage to overcome injustice, pray for yourself and pray for others. Pray to God with all your heart and soul, then gather up your might to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

4 Dos on How to Pray for Healing

“A moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips”. It meant that an act that took just an instant could remain with you forever. This phrase is also applicable to the process of prayer. A prayer takes just a matter of seconds to utter, but its influence in our lives, on our behavior, on our hearts, on our perceptions, can be permanent. A moment on our lips is a lifetime on our souls. A simple prayer can change us; can lead us on the path to healing ourselves and our world.

1. When you pray, your heart should be present to God, who you are speaking to in prayer. If you are praying but your heart is not really into it, then it’s useless. Pray with your whole heart, mind and soul.

2. Praying silently is as effective as praying with words. Whether you vocalize your prayers or just pray in your mind, it does not matter. Both praying silently and praying with words is an effective means of communication with God. So long as you open your heart and mind to Him, words or just thoughts do not matter. Both are essential to your prayer life and both of them have still possessed the main purpose.

3. Like learning how to ride a bicycle, your initial efforts to learn how to pray for healing might feel awkward. But once you master some of the skills, you never forget them. You can use the skills any time, any where, for anyone.

4. There is no real formula in praying. There is no right or wrong way, short and long prayers are equal to God as long as you pray wholeheartedly. Miracles happen and answered prayers will definitely come into place.

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 Clearly God wants us to come to Him with our physical and emotional illnesses. Have faith in God. Be bold. Be persistent. People can be healed of anything. There are no conditions that are too difficult for God.

A prayer for healing is among our most urgent prayers. When we are in pain, we can turn to the Great Physician, Jesus Christ, for healing. It doesn’t matter whether we need help in our body or our spirit; God has the power to make us better.
