Women have a tendency to devote so much of themselves to everything and everyone putting their own needs on the back burner. They find love and get lost in their relationships, become mothers dedicating everything to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their children, and some even become caretakers to their aging parents that can no longer live independently. Then, there’s the amount of time and energy that goes into running a successful business.

Needless to say, women are inundated with so many other responsibilities that they have very little to give to themselves. Though this is a common practice, continuing this pattern of living can cause a great deal of physical and emotional distress. As their own needs fall further on the list of priorities, they can experience everything from fluctuating weight and increased risk for life-threatening illnesses to burn out and mental health problems.

Their weakened mental and physical health then results in their inability to maintain their responsibilities, care for those they love, manage their businesses, and to live a happy and purposeful life. Seeing as how this isn’t the outcome anyone wants, it is essential for women to find time to cater to their own needs by incorporating self-care practices into their day. Continue reading for some suggestions.

Create a Morning Routine

How you start your day often dictates how the rest of your day will go. For many women, however, their mornings start with waking the kids, making sure they’re prepared for school, making breakfast and lunches, and rushing out the door to get everyone where they need to be on time. Instead of starting your day off in a hurry, create a morning routine that allows you to tend to yourself first.

Set an alarm that wakes you up an hour before the rest of the household. During that time you should take a shower, follow your skincare routine with renewal skincare products, have a nourishing breakfast, exercise for at least 15 minutes, and get ready for the day.

Get Serious About Your Diet

Eating scraps from the kid’s plates, skipping meals, and even overindulging in fast food and takeout are very common practices for female entrepreneurs with little time, money, and energy. This type of eating, however, leads to weight problems, a weakened immune system, hormonal imbalances, and emotional problems. Though you may have limited resources, it is imperative to eat better.

Get serious about your diet by making sure that you’re eating at least three times a day. These meals should also be packed with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy to ensure that you get all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you need to make it through each day. Preparing meals at home, meal planning, meal prep, and incorporating healthy recipes can all be beneficial in helping you to eat healthier despite your busy schedule.

Indulge in Things You Enjoy

Before becoming girlfriends/wives, mothers, caretakers, and entrepreneurs, most women spent their time doing things they enjoyed. As life takes over, however, these interests often fall by the wayside giving way to feelings of resentment and depression. This can only be avoided by investing time in things that once made you smile.

Whether you loved reading, writing, art, hanging out with friends, shopping, or traveling, these things can be added to your life to improve your happiness and wellbeing. Join a book club and share your love of reading with like-minded women, start a blog and make your writing public for others to enjoy, create an art studio and invest in supplies to create masterpieces, pencil in girls’ nights, go on mini shopping sprees, or plan at least one solo trip a year.

Find Ways to Combat The Stress

There’s no denying that the life of a female entrepreneur is stressful. While some stress can be essential to your success, too much can cause a multitude of problems. Therefore, it is essential that you find ways to keep the stress to a minimum. Whether it’s meditation, yoga, massages, taking naps, or spending some much-needed time alone, be sure to incorporate it into your day.

Self-care may seem selfish when you have so many other people and things you’re responsible for. Be that as it may, failure to take care of yourself first only leads to a reduced ability to care for the people you work so hard to be there for. By incorporating self-care practices like those discussed above into your everyday routines, you’ll find that you are in a better position to continue being successful in every aspect of your life.
