If you do not know about cars, who do you normally go to? When in need of car service, a car mechanic is sought without hesitation, right? This type of role is no different than the concept of hiring a tutor, personal trainer, life coach, therapist, electrician, financial advisor, business consultant, or the like. Get help if you do not know or don’t hold the expertise in a particular subject.
Of course, please do not fall into the traps of a scam/scheme to take your money and run. Please ensure you do your research at the Better Business Bureau, www.bbb.org because in reality there are scams on the rise due to the economy there are people offering false hope. At times people start legitimate businesses on the side but urge you gain personal referrals to ensure the person can deliver. A simple internet search via Google, Ask.com, or Yahoo might be able to tell you all because prior experiences could be posted through chat rooms, blogs, or similar. Who and What?
Who should ask for help and what type of help should I seek? This is a simple question to answer, anyone who feels they are tackled with overwhelming issues which they are not gaining successful results. What type of area to seek help is that which you do not hold an expertise and struggle to accomplish goals? For instance, if you want to establish a business but lack the ability to draft a business plan, reach out to a business expert.
How and When?
Another simple questions to answer, you can gauge if there are no results from your target goals. A perfect example is for the person who lacks time management. If you can never seem to handle all tasks which you are assigned or set out to achieve, you are a perfect candidate to seek out a person who specializes in time management. A classic example is in the results of your resume. You have to question, are you gaining the desired phone calls to gain job interviews? The same reflection is required when establishing a business. Another well known topic is finance. Are you struggling to understand or set a budget? Do you get puzzled when it comes to the numbers? Again, if the answer is yes, you need to reach out to a financial advisor or someone who can help you on a financial level.
Corporate Executives generally seek outside help, this is nothing new and you are no exception. People make this a complicated task or embarrassed to seek outside help. You must reposition your thoughts and honestly say that you do not hold the expertise; therefore, you need someone to show you how to achieve your goals. It goes back to a prior article regarding rethinking the word failure. Failure should be thought of as a learning lesson, not a discouragement to continue. From consultants to personal assistants, help is around the corner if you seek out the resources.
Why and Where?
The why is simple yet there where is complex. The why is because you want to better yourself by making whatever you do efficient. The where do you seek help depends on your need. I must revert back to check the Better Business Bureau, Google search, ask around to people with success stories, join groups online or in your area which support the designated area you desire to find reputable referrals, and remember to always use colleges and/or universities as resources. Many people forget Professors, Administrators, and students are always willing to help in various areas or expertise.
