An Interview with Pamela S. Thibodeaux: Author & Entrepreneur

Sylvia: Hi Pamela, it is such a pleasure to interview you.  Please give our readers a brief introduction of yourself and a little about your book.

Pamela: Hello! My name is Pamela S. Thibodeaux and it is so nice to meet you! I am the Co-Founder and a lifetime member of Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana and the CEO of the Wordsmith Journal Magazine. Multi-published in romantic fiction as well as creative non-fiction, my writing has been tagged as, “Inspirational with an Edge!” ™ and reviewed as “steamier and grittier than the typical Christian novel without decreasing the message.”

Sylvia: Louisiana… I lived in Hammond for several years; attended Southeastern Louisiana University. My husband and I have family there. What inspired you to write your first book?

Pamela: I began writing nearly thirty years ago in five subject notebooks after reading one-too-many disappointing books. Pregnant at the time, I’m not sure if the reaction was purely hormonal or not, but that was the catalyst to my writing career.

Sylvia: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Pamela: Yes, that regardless of where you’ve been or what you’ve done the awesome love of God has the power to heal the most wounded of souls and to forgive the ugliest of sinners.

Sylvia: Yes, God is Almighty! Do you have any advice for other writers?

Pamela:  The bible exhorts us to “study and show yourself approved.” Keep studying, keep writing, keep learning, and stay open to constructive critique and NEVER GIVE UP! Writing is both gift and talent given to you by God. Don’t hide your gift or bury your talent. Whatever you write, write well. Strive for excellence. Stay teachable, pliable, and flexible. Never believe that you know it all because knowledge is power and the more you know the more valuable you become. Above all share what you learn with others and make someone’s load lighter to bear.

Sylvia: What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Pamela:  Marketing is an intricate part of the publishing business and publishers today expect authors to do their fair share. I’ve done everything from online interviews like this one to radio and television spots, book signings to speaking engagements and it is always a challenge to determine which is the most effective. I’d say it’s is a combination of everything that makes an author successful. However, marketing/promotion can be overwhelming as the more you learn, the more there is to learn. For every thing you accomplish, there are hundreds more you can do. My motto is: Do something every day and your best then let God do the rest and remember it takes time to build a career.

Sylvia: Why should we buy your book?

Pamela: Abuse is rampant in today’s society. Reading my book may help you to recognize some of the signs of child abuse and/or be able to help counsel someone who has been abused.

Sylvia: Is there a special place that you prefer when you write?

Pamela: Someplace quiet. Sounds simple right? Many authors have background music or something when they write. Not me, I prefer the quiet.

Sylvia: What projects are you currently working on?

Pamela: Currently I have a short story I’m awaiting acceptance (or rejection) on, a novel that needs editing and re-submitting and a novel in the works and The Wordsmith Journal Magazine keep me busy.

Sylvia: What is your POWER WORD?  Why this word?

Pamela: Faith – is my power word because it reminds me to have faith in God, faith in myself and faith in this gift HE has entrusted me with.

Sylvia: I love that word, Faith. To what or whom do you credit your success?

Pamela:  Many people have a love/hate relationship with their muse. My muse is the Holy Spirit and I accredit every ounce of success to the grace of God because without HIM I seriously doubt I could write a single word, much less stories that bring hope and healing to so many.

Sylvia: Pamela, it’s been a pleasure. Where can my readers learn more about you?

Pamela: I’ve enjoyed it as well. Thank you again for your interest, Sylvia.  Find out more about me and my writing by visiting:
