An Interview with Margaret Rogers: Author

Sylvia: Hi Margaret, it is such a pleasure to interview you.  Please give our readers a brief introduction of yourself and a little about your book.

Margaret: Hi Sylvia. Thank you for providing this venue for women authors.  My name is Margaret Rogers and I was born in the Delta of Mississippi but raised in Portland, Oregon. The traumatic experiences that I have survived: abandonment, child abuse, molestation and rejection, and even domestic violence, will hopefully help heal many who are hurting emotionally. I became interested in writing because growing up there wasn’t really anyone to express myself to, no one who really cared so I began putting my thoughts down on paper and as a result and upon becoming an adult, wanted to share my story. I have written several articles over the years for and about other people. But now, I thought, it is time to put my own story out. I am a mother, and a wife. My employer currently is a telecommunications giant and I am daring to tell my story, my way.

Sylvia: What kind of impact have your story had on other women who have had similar experiences?

Margaret: Every one that has read my book says one of two things: that they had no idea I have gone through what I have gone through or that they themselves have also been abused and that I in fact have told their story in some ways.

Sylvia: What inspired you to write your first book?

Margaret: What inspired me to write this book was because with all of the abuse issues swirling about, I wanted to be a voice for those who have been abused but are afraid to talk about it.  For so many years I believed I was nothing because that is what I was told so much as a small child and while promoting my own inner healing, I wanted to let others know that they are somebody and they do matter while also conveying the fact that abuse is not an excuse.

Sylvia:  As you wrote about your life experiences, describe just a bit your emotions?

Margaret: As I wrote and recalled, I felt that I was reliving my fears.  A few times I even had somewhat of an anxiety attack… from the abandonment to the physical and sexual abuse to the domestic violence, caused me to have to pause a few times because of the recall of the trauma.

Sylvia: Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?

Margaret: My message would be that nothing is going to be the same always and you will be ok.

Sylvia: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Margaret: My advice for other writers would be to never give in or give up, to follow your dream.

Sylvia: What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Margaret: I have used marketing techniques from social media to podcast to friends of friends to online tools.  The marketing technique that has worked the best for me is word of mouth and book signings.

Sylvia: Why should we buy your book?

Margaret: You should buy my book because everyone has a story to tell and my book helps to promote inner healing and adds insight to my spiritual journey.  In addition, if God can do it for me, He can and will do it for others.

Sylvia: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Margaret: I try to write something every day and when I write, I prefer quietness so that I can at least complete my writing goal for that day.

Sylvia: What projects are you currently working on?

Margaret: I am currently a writer for Examiner.com, which is an online news source with various news topics.  My topics are Entry Level Career Examiner and Atlanta Health Examiner.  I am also working on a cookbook then I plan to author my husband’s magnificent story.

Sylvia: What is your POWER WORD?  Why this word?

Margaret: My power word is RESILIENCE! I love this word and use it on my own website in describing my book.  This word is what I am today after going through the fire and allowing God to bring me out.

Sylvia: Thank you Margaret. Please leave your contact information.

Margaret: You are very welcome. My contact is below.
