I have friends laugh at me because when they ask me to read something, when I look at it, if there are too many words, I have a bad habit of not reading it or my first reaction is, “there are too many words.”

Have you ever gone to a website and it appears there are just a big blob of words there?  There is nothing to break it up?  It can seem slightly daunting to read, especially if it is a long page.  Don’t get me wrong, I write long blog posts, but I also use a few techniques so that it doesn’t seem so overwhelming to my readers.  Today I will share a few of those strategies with you:

  1. Make your text stand out.  Using italics, different colors, or even bolding the important parts of your blogs makes it easier for your readers to skim your post.  If the text you have taken the time to emphasize really grabs their attention, they will take the time to read the entire post.
  2. Add pictures.  Adding relevant images to your blog posts, breaks up the text and allows for easier reading.
  3. Short and sweet.  Every post you write doesn’t have to be a long essay.  Getting to the point and eliminating the fluff is something your readers will appreciate.
  4. Larger text.  I have been to websites that even when I wear my glasses, the text is super duper small.  Make it easier on your readers and use a larger font size.

You must remember that most of your readers will view your website on their tiny smartphone and will only skim your post so you want to make it as easy for them as possible!

What are some ways you make reading your posts easier for your readers?
