Got Power?

September 5, 2011 By Guest Blogger Leave a Comment

The headlines on much of the East Coast is related to the restoration of power post-Irene. Three days after Irene has left, many homes are still without power – and they are not happy about it. Aside from the initial inconvenience of not having electricity, loss of electric power over time equates to loss of food that can no longer be preserved, loss of physical energy due to poor air circulation, loss of income/productivity and the list goes on. Whether or not you have been affected by the loss of electricity from Irene, this is a great time to be thankful that you serve a God that never loses power.

In us lives the Spirit of a living and a powerful God. A God that has the power to resurrect, to restore, to create, to heal, even to prolong the day. His power never sleeps, never slumbers, and is not reliant upon anything or any one to work. In fact, the God we serve is so powerful that even in His name alone has power. Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Katrina were powerful events and when they were here their sheer strength had the power to destroy homes and change the landscape of the areas they hit, but when you say their names now, all that comes up is the memory of the temporary power the storms had. Even an historic event like 9.11 that changed a nation, possesses no power today – only a memory. If you are in need, in danger or in confusion and you say Katrina or Irene or 9.11….nothing happens. But God.

Philippians 2:9-11 tells us that the name of Jesus is the name above all names. At the mention of His name alone every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess. When you can’t say anything else you can just whisper, “Jesus” into your atmosphere and expect change to occur. When you find yourself in a challenge don’t say the name of the challenge – say Jesus. Don’t say cancer – say Jesus; Don’t say diabetes – say Jesus; Don’t say broke – say Jesus; Don’t say foreclosure – say Jesus; Don’t say divorce – say Jesus. When you speak, speak from a position of power speak words of power and in the same way that you look for and expect change when you say the names of the challenges in your life, look for and expect change, change that lasts, when you say the name that is above all names – Jesus.

You have power – You have authority flowing through you continuously, unconditionally and without contingency. Power in the living words of the gospel of God and power in His name. Use your power so you can walk and live in the light!

Pearls In Motion

Are you walking in power? Are you living in light or darkness? Looking over your life, where are you drawing your power from? You can tell where you power is coming from by observing your words, your attitude and the impact.

Prayer

Lord, as I think about the events and experiences in my life that have had a major impact, or the people that I feel are powerful or influential I realize that even in their strongest state their power pales in comparison to you. The words that flow from your mouth have life and so much power that when I repeat them I experience the same effect that the words had when you said them. Even in your name there is power to change, power to heal, power to protect, power to love. And your power never leaves, never wanes, never fails. Lord, I just thank you this day for allowing me to experience your power and I will remember that in all things I can infuse power into my life as long as I look to you in all things. AMEN
