An Interview with Dortha Hise: Author & Entrepreneur
Sylvia: Hi Dortha, it is such a pleasure to interview you. I know how busy you are so thank you for your time. Please give our readers a brief introduction of yourself and a little about your book.
Dortha: I am passionate about helping others be successful. I was born and raised in California, and began my first business at the age of 11 breeding hamsters and selling the offspring to local pet stores. I graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a bachelor of arts in psychology in1998 and received a bachelor of science in criminal justice in 2003 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
I consider myself a serial entrepreneur. I run a successful virtual consulting business and a web design and development business. I offer a variety of support to my clients from research and phone calls to web design and social media support.
I am a recent author in the collaboration project Woman Entrepreneur Extraordinaire, a Thrive Publishing book. Woman Entrepreneur Extraordinaire is a comprehensive resource from top women entrepreneurs. It is your guide for best practices, practical solutions and inspiration—everything you need to establish and grow your ideal business. The insight from the women experts will show you how to effectively run your business and achieve all the success you seek. In addition, I am currently working on two additional book projects for business owners.
I am ardent advocate for breast cancer cure; I have walked in the Sacramento American Cancer Society Making Strides® walk since 2006. In 2010, after losing a close friend to breast cancer, I raised more than $2,000 and walked 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer®. My best friend and husband, Jason, and I have coordinated medical screening clinics to benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children® and most recently volunteered as the general chairman overseeing and assisting with screening clinics in 23 counties of Northern California.
Sylvia: Wow, Kudos to you in your support for breast cancer awareness. What inspired you to write your first book?
Dortha: I wanted to set myself apart as an expert in my field and I felt like a collaborative book project was the way to go.
Sylvia: Very interesting! Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
Dortha: Yes, definitely! The message is that having a team is an imperative part of growing your business.
Sylvia: Do you have any advice for other writers?
Dortha: Absolutely… Do it! Be consistent and get the support you need to move forward in your business.
Sylvia: Why should we buy your book?
Dortha: Well, people should buy my book because it’s a resource for every business woman and it has a lot of great information from 21 authors.
Well Dortha, what is your POWER WORD? A power word is a word that has great effect to the person hearing or reading it. My power word is EMPOWER! In fact, I created a weekly program called, POWER UP and each week my group discover and discuss a specific POWER WORD as it relates to our lives. I provide audio and handouts as well.
Dortha: Dream! Dreams are the visionary creativity of the imagination.
Sylvia: In three words, how would you describe yourself?
Dortha: Funny, Honest and Dependable!
Sylvia: Dortha, it’s been a pleasure. Please tell us how to order your book?
