Tonia: Hello Sylvia, my name Tonia Askins, I am a wife of 12 years and mother of three. My professional background spans over 17 years within 14 different industries of consultant, ownership and executive level experience. The book, “You’ve Been Fired! Now What?” is a collaborative project, in which I and another international business consultant, located in the UK, Victor Kwegyir, walk you through identifying business start-up opportunities, utilizing your skills, experience and passion. Not only that, for the existing business owner seeking to implement vital systems and standards, it serves as a practical, insightful and experience packed guide for success.

Sylvia: I really like the description of your book. So many people have lost jobs over the last few jobs, so the information in your book will give them hope and alternatives. What inspired you to write your first book?

Tonia: As a business consultant encountering people that were increasingly being laid off and the despair was heartbreaking. Coupled with that were individuals who desired to start a business but didn’t have the basics to scale the risks and rewards. I reached out to another business consultant offering a collaboration and a year later here we are. My goal is to offer solutions, encouragement and creative possibilities for earning income and fortifying a future to a world that needs answers now.

Sylvia: I like that! Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Tonia: “You’ve Been Fired! Now What?” is a nonfiction business book highlighting entrepreneurship based opportunities that exist for individuals whether they are unemployed, underemployed, work part time or full time and even stay at home parents. It provides you with the necessary options and 40 potential businesses you can start to help you create a secure and successful future. For existing business owners it provides, 33 proven principles, essential business systems, the business life cycle and other successful business examples will equip you to propel your business to the next level.

Sylvia: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Tonia: I advise writers to walk in and capitalize on their own personal truths as they know it, feel it and believe it. Indeed it is your own unique perspective, experiences and brand that sets you apart.

Sylvia: Great advice! What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Tonia: Personally connecting and sharing with people has been very rewarding and the most successful for me. I stay genuinely engaged outside of regular selling spaces (seminars, book events, etc.) and the connections have been awesome with endless possibilities. I let people get to know me not just sell them a book. At the moment over 50% of initial inventory, has been purchased from individuals purchasing multiple copies to give and help others in need. I think that is awesome!

Sylvia: Is there a special place that you prefer when you write?

Tonia: A quite space is needed for me when writing so usually it’s in my home office, late at night, when the kids are asleep or early morning prior to them heading off to school. For my business writing it’s normally scheduled in front of the computer, but for my inspirational writing I am open and receptive at any time of the day or night and I can be anywhere.

Tonia: This book serves the unemployed, underemployed, professionals working part time or full time, college students who would like to expand their options and stay at home parents. Another great excerpt from the book is: Whether you have completed high school or earned a doctorate, are a stay-at-home mom or dad, or professional woman or man on the go, neither unemployment nor entrepreneurship discriminates. This book can benefit and serve as motivation to all who desire to leave more than life insurance policies but legacies.
