An Interview with Dr. Sandra Peoples: Author & Entrepreneur

Sylvia: Welcome Dr. Peoples. It’s a pleasure to interview you. I enjoyed chatting with you over the phone. Please give our readers an introduction of yourself and a little about your book.

Sandra N. Peoples: Hello Sylvia. My name is Dr. Sandra N. Peoples. I am an author and entrepreneur who has a love and a passion for writing. I work as a publishing consultant, assisting aspiring authors and entrepreneurs with the publication of their own books. For the past eight years, I have helped authors through blogs, courses, workshops, seminars and my manual, ‘The Truth About Self-Publishing’. It is something I truly enjoy. My book ‘Foolish’ is the story of Sharee` Haskins, the wife of a wealthy publishing tycoon. She is a spoiled housewife who finds herself in a deadly affair with a man from her past; who happens to be an ex-convict.

Sylvia: I am certain your services are very needed as there are alot of aspiring authors out there. As for your book, sounds like a very good thriller. What inspired you to write your first book?

Sandra N. Peoples:  While celebrating what was supposed to be my wedding night/honeymoon, I found myself alone. My new husband had chosen to spend that night with his friends, rather than with me. I started writing the book because at that moment, I honestly felt like a fool. So, I wanted to pen a story to show what it was like to make a foolish decision and try to live with it. Thus, ‘Foolish’ was born.

Sylvia: Wow! I am sorry you had to go thru such a terrible ordeal.  Nobody should have to endure such pain. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Sandra N. Peoples: Yes. In my novel, I deal with economic abuse, which is a rarely discussed form of domestic violence. In economic abuse, a partner, usually a woman, is forced to give their money to their significant other. I experienced this form of abuse during my marriage. I would work, and my now ex-husband would dictate what was going to be done with every penny.

Sylvia: You are right, it’s not talked about much. I am glad you are sharing your experience with others. Do you have any advice for other writers?

Sandra N. Peoples:  As writers, you have to love what you have written and develop a tough skin. There are going to be people who disagree with what you have written, and will be more than happy to show you how they could have done it better than you.

Sylvia: Of course, I am not surprised. What marketing techniques have you used to sell your books and which ones have been most successful?

Sandra N. Peoples:  I have found that tying your book promotion in with a major event will help your book gain exposure and increase your book sales. Since my book deals with a form of domestic violence, I do a lot of heavy promotion of it during the month of October, which is National Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Doing this, I am able to get radio, print and blog coverage of my book.

Sylvia: I like that idea. I know this will be valuable information for my readers and followers. Why should we buy your book?

Sandra N. Peoples:  My book is for the woman who has ever fell for the wrong man, and, even though she knew that man was wrong for her, she tried to stay and make it work. And, some women find themselves loving men for the wrong reasons, and in the wrong situations. Read this book to learn the signs of economic abuse, and maybe save the life of someone you know and love.

Sylvia: Very important information! Is there a special place that you prefer when you write?

Sandra N. Peoples: I like to write at home, in the wee hours of the morning when the house is quiet and the kids are sleeping. I generally sit in the bed, break out my laptop, and get to writing.

Sylvia: That definitely sound familiar. In fact, I was editing our interview in the wee hours of the morning. What projects are you currently working on?

Sandra N. Peoples: Currently, I am working on a the story of a  divorced mom who finds herself in the middle of a crime ring when she takes unknowingly takes a job as a secretary for a hit man so that she can provide for her kids. I am also working on more manuals, classes, workshops, and other things for both new and established authors.

Sylvia: Wow, that’s awesome. You are one busy lady. I commend you! What is your POWER WORD? Why this word?

Sandra N. Peoples: Motivated. I chose this word because I am driven now more than ever to create the life I have always wanted to lead for both my children, as well as for myself.

Sylvia: Dr. Peoples, it’s been great. Thank you again for sharing your time!  Please share your social media and book contact information.
