One of the most effective ways to remove unwanted hair is through laser hair removal.  The process is simple: A concentrated beam of light targets the unwanted hair and effectively kills off the hair follicle. As a result, that hair won’t be growing back.

Of course with any cosmetic surgery, there comes plenty of misunderstandings and myths. Here are seven myths about laser hair removal that need to be set straight.

It’s extremely painful

Extremely is a strong word. While laser hair removal certainly isn’t relaxing, it’s not extremely painful by any means. In fact, most people compare the experience to being snapped with a rubber band. If you can handle that, you can handle laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal isn’t for people with dark skin

It’s been said that the best laser hair removal results comes from people with fair skin and dark hair. That is true, but technology has come a long ways with regards to laser hair removal.

The most up-to-date equipment can easily target unwanted hair, no matter the color. Check with your laser hair specialist and enquire about how old their equipment is.

Unwanted facial hair is very costly

Again, this is not true when you look at the whole picture.  First, receiving laser hair removal treatments on your face is not more expensive than on your bikini or legs.  Second of all, look at the long run. If you have a monthly waxing appointment for lip or chin hair, that can run you as much as $40-$60 each month. By investing in laser hair removal, you’ll save a considerable amount of money and time (which is almost more valuable!) in the long run.

Laser hair removal is not safe

This is another false statement. Laser hair removal is so effective because it targets pigments within the hair. That means the laser is only focusing on the hair follicle and not the skin cells around it.

Additionally, laser hair removal has been around for a while now, which means thousands upon thousands have solidified it as a proven method for removing unwanted hair.

Expect years of treatment

Today’s technology actually only requires a few laser hair removal treatments to make sure your unwanted hair is completely removed.  In fact, four to five treatments separated six weeks apart effectively removes 95 percent of the unwanted hair.

Laser hair removal permanently removes your unwanted hair

There actually aren’t any methods out there that remove your unwanted hair 100 percent permanently, but laser hair removal is the closest at doing so. Don’t think of it as permanent hair removal, rather, think of it as permanent hair reduction.

Laser hair removal actually causes ingrown hairs

Painful ingrown hairs are common after shaving and waxing, but laser hair removal results in the complete opposite. Last hair removal actually greatly reduces the chances of getting ingrown hairs.  Additionally, the hair that does grow back is significantly lighter and less visible.
