Selling can be exhausting. Whether you have a storefront with inventory you sell to the public, or work in direct sales from home, or are constantly trying to “sell” your brand on social media, the process can be emotionally draining. Anyone who has been in sales for a while knows that it is a numbers game: for every “yes” or purchase, there will be many more “nos.” Every “yes” is a victory though and can give you the boost you need to keep going with whatever it is you are selling.
On the days when you feel like every door is being slammed in your face, remember these five things:
You aren’t alone.
You are not the only woman in the history of sales who has heard “no.” It is just part of the process – almost a job requirement. In other words, don’t take it personally.
You/your product are valuable.
In order to win other people over when it comes to your product or brand, you have to completely believe in it. Do you value your products, service, and self? If so, that will shine through in every conversation you have about these things. Even the people who initially say “no” may later change their minds when they see your genuine enthusiasm.
Wealth isn’t built overnight.
There’s a reason that “get rich schemes” don’t work and that you have greater odds of being attacked by shark than of winning the Powerball lottery. Building true wealth is a matter of determination and hard work over time. Gradually the hard work you put in today will add up to great things down the road and those bad days will be outweighed by your accomplishments.
Planting seeds will yield a harvest.
Wouldn’t it be great if someone said “yes” every time you pitched your product or brand? Many people get discouraged too early when it comes to sales because they feel like all they hear are negative or tentative responses. Sales take time, however. People have to take the time to come to the realization on their own and not feel pressured. It generally takes 3 to 12 exposures for some people to really accept what you are offering. Plant enough seeds, and you WILL see them come to fruition with time.
Your target market needs this.
Don’t let anyone convince you that what you are selling isn’t necessary. Though it may not be for everyone, there is a group of people out there who are in the market for what you have to offer. Just keep plugging away and you will find those people – and benefit from filling their needs.
How about you? How do you stay motivated in sales?
