Deep Conditioning is a Must

Just like there are plenty of different skincare products for many different types of skin, there are plenty of deep conditioning methods and spa treatments for different styles and textures of hair. Deep conditioning is a definite to-do no matter what kind of hair you have, and doing so 2-3 months before your wedding will help you achieve optimal results.

Anti-Frizz Treatments

You don’t want to worry about flyaways and frizz on your big day, which can make it more difficult to achieve the style your heart is set on for your stylist or yourself. Try an anti-frizz solution a month or two before your wedding so you can yield the best results the day of.

Oil-Based Products to Help You Prep (Mention WOC)

Natural oils are essential to healthy hair, and applying warm coconut or olive oil to your scalp can help correct any dryness or flakiness. Just gently massage a small amount of oil directly into your scalp (not your hair) and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing out with warm water.

For women of color, you can try the above method or any oil-based product aimed at textured or naturally curly hair. Adding shine without residue will result in glossy, touchable tresses that are perfect for your big day!

A New Color or Style Needs a Test-run

If you’re considering a new hair color or a new haircut or style altogether before you wedding day, give it a test run 2-3 months beforehand. This allows time for you to adjust to it and decide if you want it to stay or go, and leaves a good amount of time to try to correct it if you aren’t a fan.

Heat Can be Way Harsh

We all love our straighteners, wands, irons, and blow dryers, right? Of course. And we wouldn’t ask you to break up with these beloved tools completely, but we do recommend cutting back on how much heat you use a few weeks or months before your wedding day. Heat styling can really dry out your hair and cause damage. Give your hair a little breather from all the heat for awhile before your big day, and you’ll have smooth, luxurious hair in those ever-so-important photos!

Mask it Up

Hair masks are growing in popularity for a reason- they work! Similar to deep conditioning, hair masks can allow your hair to soak up the nutrients and proteins it needs for optimal hair health. You can even DIY your own hair mask with one egg yolk, 2 tbsp of coconut oil, and 1 tbsp of honey. Comb it through damp hair and let it sit for 30 minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual. You’ll have soft, healthy locks in no time.

Enhance What You Have

Do you have naturally curly hair? Thick waves? Fine, straight hair? Play up your hair’s strengths in health and style. Test out the perfect products for you, and search for styles that will complement your hair’s natural texture.

Clean Hair is Happy Hair

Shampooing, conditioning and applying serum are the three must-dos to keep your hair healthy and shiny. Shampooing daily (every other day is ideal) with a gentle shampoo and limiting the shampoo to your scalp only is the perfect pathway to healthy hair. Allow the lather to clean your ends- you don’t need to scrub those.  Conditioning, on the other hand, is different – apply conditioner liberally to entire head.  Serum adds extra protection to your hair and protects it from the pollution and harmful sun-rays. It also helps your hair stay shiny!

Know Your Hair

You probably have a good idea of what products and styles suit you and your hair, and what ones don’t. Whether you’ve got long hair or short, medium length or the perfect bob, you know what works for you. If you’ve been taking good care of your hair up until this point, keep going! If your hair care has gone to the bottom of that to-do list, then the time leading up to your wedding is the perfect time to start better hair care habits. We wish you a lifetime of healthy, happy hair days!
